The American people may never experience drive-through nickel beer nights, but they they can see Will Durst, America’s foremost political comedian, along with raising stars David Goborie and Shanti Charan, for just $5 at Barbary Coast Comedy!
Five dollars? You’ve got to be kidding?! Nope, we’re presenting this lineup at such an incredibly low price so you’ll have an opportunity to experience a professionally-produced, top-notch comedy showcase (not an open mic) without having to raid your 401K or plopping down extra cash for overpriced booze — because there’s no drink minimum! Don’t miss this one…you’ll never see a better comedy showcase for a bargain price like this ever again.
Acknowledged by peers and press alike as one of the premier political satirists in the country, Will Durst has patched together a comedy quilt of a career, weaving together columns, books, radio and television commentaries, acting, voice overs and most especially, stand up comedy, into a hilarious patchwork of outraged and outrageous common sense. His abiding motto is “You can’t make stuff up like this." The New York Times calls him "possibly the best political comic in the country." Fox News agrees "he's a great political satirist," while the Oregonian hails him as a “hilarious stand-up journalist.” This former radio talk host, oyster shucker, and margarine smuggler currently writes a nationally syndicated humor column, and his scribblings have appeared in Esquire, George, the San Francisco Chronicle, National Lampoon, The New York Times and scads of other periodicals.
David Gborie comes to party. He’s been telling jokes all over the country for a couple of years now and he is, in his words, “Pretty legit at it.” He is a member of Sylvan Productions and can be seen around town lurking at one of their many shows or at Crissy Field with his trusty crab pot. He’s appeared at The Bridgetown Comedy Festival, SF Indie Fest, and Denver’s Too Much Funstival, as well as the SF Punchline, The Denver Comedy Works, and other impressive venues. He despises the word swag.
Shanti Charan’s bubbly personality and contagious smile lure in audiences and her comedic abilities keep 'em laughing. Her ability to connect the dots makes it easy for her to communicate with diverse audiences. In 2011, she won the Rooster T Feather’s Comedy Competition and also participated in the 2011 San Francisco International Comedy Competition where she advanced to the semi-finals. Charan was awarded SF Weekly’s 2012 Best Stand-Up on the Way Up. SF Weekly says Charan’s writing “is clever and confident beyond her years.”
